    My name is Brian Wolfe. I grew up in a small town in Rhode Island called Portsmouth. I was diagnosed with Asperger’s and ADD at a young age, now called autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This left me somewhat socially isolated for most of my adolescence. Fortunately, I was able to combat this by meeting people who were just as nerdy as I was growing up. Eventually, after moving on from that phase of my youth, I started playing football, which opened up even more social circles. The problem I found was that I always felt, even with these newfound social circumstances, that I still felt different. Because of that, it led me to doubt myself and have a poor sense of identity when I transitioned into middle school and eventually high school. This feeling was something I discussed through therapy, and ultimately, I was informed that I was going through bouts of depression. Fortunately, I came out the other side of this battle a much more confident and fulfilled person than in those early years of my life. Through my poetry, I hope you get a glimpse of what my life was like then and how you, too, can overcome any obstacle thrown your way.
